a square world

A couple of short updates from Eli and Eden…

I was reading Eli and Eden a science book on the solar system last night.  They really enjoy learning about the planets.  Eden said something funny.  After we talked about how the earth is round, she said “Daddy, I know the earth is round, but it seems more square to me .”

This morning Eli told me he remembers waking up two times last night.  And he said both times he was uncovered.  He wondered for a minute, then said “maybe a bunch of mice came and pulled my covers down”.

Kids are so amusing…

When I have time, I’ll put together a worship confessional from this past Sunday.  Worship was beautiful this week.

  • Kids really say the funniest things. Being a teacher, I come home with many stories from my day. One day last year a Kindergarten student was very upset with me, because I had just finished reprimanding him for misbehaving. I asked him if he understood why I was disappointed, and he muttered, “Yes, Mrs. Cooper.” I said, great, well I look forward to seeing you make better decisions next time(such a teacher thing to say!) Then I turned around to walk away, and under his breath I heard this cute little Kindergarten student say in an incredibly angry tone, “Candy pants.” He called me candy pants!! My friend Sarah still calls me candy pants to this day.

Eli also called a beaver dam a “beaver jam” the other day. Makes much more sense, really. ;)
Also, Eden called a koala bear a “bamboo bear”!
What I love about so many of the funny things kids say is that so much of the time it really is a better way of saying things. They just haven’t been jaded by the English language as much as we have.

  • Haha, I also feel like it’s really more of a square world. I think my niece has got something here.

Stopped by to see Libby and the kids today… Eli showed me his new K’nex and tried to explain to me how the lobster claw mechanism works. That kid is a lot more technical than I am. Maybe he can help me with my stats homework this semester.
