moby on christianity – relevant magazine

Moby was interviewed in Relevant magazine. I found this question, and his response especially interesting. In an interview with RELEVANT a couple years ago, you talked about some negative views on the state of Christianity. Do you think anything has changed? It’s hard, because I think that individual Christians are quietly doing amazing things; they’re ministering to the poor and sick. The quiet, humble Christians seem like the ones who are really trying to walk in the footsteps of Christ. It’s the loud, arrogant, judgmental, obnoxious Christians who seem to... Read The Rest →

i'll pray for you (that is, if i remember)

Last night, Libby told me something that I didn’t know about her… She said that if she tells someone she will pray for them, she prays for them RIGHT AWAY – because she knows herself and she might not think of it later. I though that was brilliant. I get so annoyed with myself when I tell someone I’ll pray for them and then forget. How lame? I’ve realized lately that it can be so refreshing to pray aloud with friends. Why are we so hesitant to pray with and... Read The Rest →

swerve blog – the challenge of ministry friendships

There’s a great post today from Criag Groeschel, about including our spouses in the inner dialog of ministry.  I asked a question about how to develop meaningful prayer times with your spouse.  Libby and I have always been challenged to have deep prayer times together.  It’s something we’re working on. You can read the post here on the Swerve blog.

"Giving to the needy" – in secret?…Herman could use a chess set

Last Wednesday we went back to the Amtrak bridge and found Herman at the same corner we found him exactly a week earlier. Herman agreed to go to lunch with us. We went to our usual place – Benjamin’s on 10th. Man, we had a really fun lunch with Herman. The guy is so fun to be around. Here are a few interesting things we learned about Herman… He’s on a waiting list to get an apartment from the Wilmington housing authority. He could use a good pair of jeans... Read The Rest →

songs you should own #3 – God of This City from new Passion CD

I’ll be serving at the Passion Regional event in DC at the end of February. Thanks Lib, for encouraging me to go. I love you. “God of This City” is Passion’s new album that was released on Feb. 5th. I think the album is great, but the title track “God of This City” is really amazing. The song has a fresh flavor musically and the lyrics are also unique. I think the song will help people @ HBC verbalize that God is calling us to be part of the greater... Read The Rest →

lunch on the street, under an amtrak bridge

Ben and I were able to eat lunch with three homeless people today. We all ate under an Amtrak bridge, not far from the Wilmington Train station. Here’s how it went down… We had stopped to talk to this crew a few weeks back. We found them on the same street corner, under the same bridge. This time we had stuff to give them, thanks to Ben! We walked up to Karin, Herman and Kevin and chatted with them for awhile. Ben gave Kevin a Texas Tech sweatshirt (which he... Read The Rest →
